Surge protection for MCR technology

In MCR technology, a large number of cables connect many interfaces. This poses a particular risk. Surge voltages can couple into all interfaces simultaneously through each of these cables.

Protect your processes

Signal interfaces are particularly sensitive to surge voltages. Combined protective circuits with components which are powerful and respond quickly are used in this case.

The PLUGTRAB product range's pluggable and testable arresters allow for a functional check, even during system operation.

Fields of application

Typical areas of application for analog two-conductor measurement are flow measurements and level measurements.

In the field of voltage signals, potentiometer positions or slide settings are queried. Temperature measurements or level measurements in tanks are common in the Ex(i) area.

Both the connection method and space requirements must fit the installation environment. This is why the surge arresters for MCR technology are available for the most varied of connection methods.

Surge protection from the sensor right through to the controller

The choice of surge arrester is based on four different factors:

  • Signal processing, such as two, three or four-conductor system
  • the maximum signal voltage,
  • surge withstand capability and
  • transmission frequency.

The site in which the surge arresters are used must also be taken into account. Protection of intrinsically safe circuits, for example, presents special requirements.
