Residual Current Monitoring (RCM)

Leakage currents caused by insulation faults pose a significant safety risk in electrotechnical systems over a certain value.

An appropriate protection concept detects leakage currents. In this way, insulation faults are eliminated and system availability is ensured.

At present, leakage current circuit breakers are frequently used for the detection of insulation faults. In the event of an error, the system disconnects safely from the mains.

This kind of disconnection serves first and foremost as personal protection. However, as such a disconnection is an unplanned occurrence, it results in downtimes and thereby has significant costs associated with it.

Preventive protection

Through the use of residual current monitoring devices (RCM), leakage currents are detected promptly and reported before they reach a critical value and before a disconnection of the system ensues.

Consequently, the  residual current measurement in electrical systems is a measure of preventive fire protection and maintenance. Downtimes and their associated costs are reduced.
